The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath said. Deuteronomy 31:3 (KJV)
We’ve heard the saying “I’ve got your back”, which usually means that the person, friend or family member is behind you regardless of what happens. In that person’s mind he will support you in your decisions and uphold you in the conflicts. However, regardless of how good a friend or family member he is, it can never compare to God’s protection and care for you.
In the Word of God, He reminds us that you are not an afterthought, He always goes before you. Even before you encounter difficulty God has your safety in his eye sight. I would even venture to say that God takes care of the situation before you are even aware of it. We can’t imagine the traps and dangers that God has protected us before we even step out of our homes.
Ever wondered why you didn’t get that job that you thought you were perfect for? What about the house, or loan that you applied for? Even relationships that didn’t work out, why was that? Could it be that instead of having your back, the Lord when before you and protected you from the harm that would befall you?
When the Lord goes before us, He will leave footprints or His footsteps to follow. So it stands to say, that although many times we walk in the way He told us to go, we fail to walk in His footsteps? We fail to step in His footprints, walking in own, therefore allowing the enemy to trip us up? We’re walking in the path He provided for us, but not in Christ’s footsteps. God is very detail in His Word and speaks His Will for our lives. It’s only when we’re drawn away by our own lusts that we encounter the entrapments (James 1:14 KJV) that awaits.
Let me add, it is not necessarily of the enemy’s doing, but of our own making. Our human nature is constantly warring against the righteous things of God. Why? It’s in our nature. We sabotage our successes in Christ because of the sin in the world, because it’s much easier to ‘go with the flow’ than to stand for righteousness.
Be encouraged to ask the Lord to go before your endeavors. Seek His Will in your planning; He will guide you to the correct path. Once He gives you the safe path, walk in His footsteps. You will see that this friend doesn’t just have your back, but He will go before you. He will stand between you and the snares that you will encounter on the path. Your success is for His Glory.
